Global perspective on workforce challenges to meet VISION 2020 goals

As the World Health Organization in its Universal Eye Health: A Global Action Plan 2014-2019, sets a global road map for the development of eye care services through a cadre of workers, there is a need for a common understanding of the available eye care workforce. Trends and challenges to set an action plan for workforce recruitment, retention, training and assessment is critical to increase the health outcomes and meet VISION 2020 goals and will be discussed. A global qualitative study results on training needs of Allied Ophthalmic Personnel (AOP) will be presented. This session will highlight a global model for training and assessment to develop a special cadre of eye care team that can be used in the developing and developed world. Session attendees will be introduced to training and assessment resources and participate in discussions for use and implementation.
